Jay Chyung, AB ’99, PhD ’04, MD ’06 (Class of 2003)

HAA Graduate School Director (Representing HMS)
Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, Alida Inc.
Cambridge, Massachusetts

As I reflect on my career since graduating from Harvard Medical School in 2006, I’m struck by how dramatically the healthcare landscape is modernizing right now. As an alumnus who has pursued business, science, and technology ventures, I’ve experienced firsthand how these changes affect providers, patients, and the practice of medicine—for both better and worse.

The advancement of technology, particularly AI and data automation, has the potential to transform medicine with alarming speed. However, with transformation comes disruption. Sometimes that disruption is needed; other times, it is unnecessary or even destructive. In this context, it is fascinating to examine how medical education and physician development could adapt as HMS trains its next generation of leaders.

The HMS Alumni Council serves as a crucial bridge between the medical school and its graduates. Alumni bring real-world experience from the broader healthcare ecosystem back to HMS while the school continues to equip its graduates and alumni with cutting-edge knowledge. This symbiotic relationship strengthens both the institution and its alumni network. Today, as change accelerates, I am excited to contribute to the evolution of that relationship.

Serving on the HMS Alumni Council offers a chance to give back to an institution that has propelled my career and to help shape its future. I am honored to be a part of this transformative era while ensuring we preserve the core values and excellence of Harvard Medical School.
