Alumni Council Member Attributes

To create a diverse slate of candidates for the Alumni Council while considering the current composition of the Council and the School’s future needs, the Slate Committee evaluates the following attributes:

  • A commitment to engaging with and representing the views of your Pentad and fellow alumni.
  • An interest in and concern for the growth, success, and overall quality and continual improvement of HMS’ education and research programs.
  • Recent active involvement with HMS alumni (e.g., participation on a Reunion Committee, serving as a Class Agent, attending or organizing regional events, etc.) and/or engagement with current medical students outside of employment.
  • The ability to dedicate the time and energy necessary for effective service.
  • Leadership experience in their medical specialty, professional medical society, medical education, or medical institution, as well as experience in a professional setting, organization, or board.
  • Skills in consensus-building, including a willingness to listen to opposing views, the ability to respectfully disagree, and the capacity to collaborate toward achieving defined goals.
  • Philanthropic support for HMS.
  • Consideration of the interests of Harvard University as a whole.
