Volunteer

The Council serves in an advisory role to Harvard Medical School leaders by listening and responding to current issues. Council members are each elected to a three-year term. The Council also appoints, in consultation with the dean, the chair of alumni relations and the chair of alumni giving.

Class agents play a vital role in keeping their classmates connected with the School. They are responsible for leading the fundraising efforts of their class each year. Class agents help shape the learning experience for students by raising critical funds for everything from scholarships and financial aid to innovative research programs and world-class faculty.

The goal of Reunion is to reconnect alumni with the School and with each other. The Class Reunion Committee members help set the tone to ensure their Reunion reflects the unique character of their class. Committees work with HMS staff to help plan Reunion activities, encourage participation in Reunion Reports, and raise a Reunion class gift.

Alumni are invited to sign up to advise students on their careers. Volunteers can meet with students in person or communicate by email or phone to help provide guidance on topics ranging from specialties to residencies, as well as help with mock internship interviews.

The HMS Alumni Council is seeking your help in recruiting prospective students and mentoring current students and recent graduates, with a particular focus on those underrepresented in medicine. In partnership with the School’s Office of Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, the Council hopes to infuse our alumni community’s unique voices and experiences into its programs.
